The Big Green Egg is a luxury and premium quality charcoal BBQ cooker that is loved by Michelin chefs, food aficionados and barbecue heads across the globe. It is a kamado-style grill, handmade in Mexico using NASA-inspired high-grade ceramics, allowing a heat of up to 1000°C to accumulate - hot enough to cook pizzas. The EGG allows up to 18 hours of cooking, either by grilling or slow cooking. Changing the way you think of ‘barbecuing’, all cooking takes place with the lid down so that heat, moisture and flavour are preserved to perfection. Temperature and smoke quantity in the Big Green Egg is controlled by a patented airflow system. Grill, smoke and bake on your EGG at exact temperatures by easily adjusting the patented airflow systems. You have total control over temperature at your fingertips, maintaining accuracy within a few degrees! What this means is that when you pick a temperature, it stays there — for hours, unassisted. Thus, your ability to influence heat and airflow is unparalleled and makes this cooker so special. There isn’t much more you can ask for than excellent savoury results all controlled by you!

The Big Green Egg is also fuel-efficient. While being able to track heat readings of over 750 F (400 C), warm up to astronomical temperatures in about fifteen minutes, and maintain a long cook with a single load of charcoal for twelve to sixteen hours (or more!).

Big Green Egg BBQs have been created to prove that barbecuing isn’t just for the summer. Using the Big Green Egg as a simple barbecue is one thing, but this smart grill can do much more. It’s ideal for budding grill chefs and enthusiasts who can enjoy a multitude of functions, including smoking, roasting, grilling and baking.  This is thanks to the “convEGGtor” which sits on top of the charcoal and underneath the metal grill. This pushes the heat around the sides of the grill rather than directly onto the food, which turns the BBQ into an oven. The Big Green Egg can be used to cook anything from authentic  pizzas at 400°C to succulent pulled pork cooked slowly at 100°c. You can even use The Big Green Egg to cook bread, brownies and much more.

There's no doubt about it, this is the ultimate accessory for alfresco dining this summer so now you just need to decide which barbecue recipes to cook. An EGG is not just for Summer, it is for life.

History:

Founded in 1974 by Ed Fischer, The Big Green Egg derives from a simple idea with an ancient lineage. It’s an updated iteration of a commonplace Asian rice cooker: the kamado, a Japanese word that translates as “place for the cauldron.” The Egg’s modern design, which uses durable ceramics, is traced to the Chinese Qin Dynasty and then used by the Japanese beginning in the third century. Ed Fischer discovered the apparatus, like many servicemen of his generation, during his travels in Asia as a Navy engineer. He then imported them from Japan to sell domestically. Later, he designed a more durable version using ceramics designed by NASA. The first EGGs were manufactured in the mid-1990s at a factory in Mexico, which continues to manufacture EGGs to this day.

BURN IT OFF
If there's caked-on debris inside your EGG, fire it up as normal and get it to 300˚C. Let it burn for a good 15-20 minutes and it'll clean itself like a self-cleaning oven. We call this a 'carbon clean'.
FOR STUBBORN DEBRIS
If there's still debris on your cooking surfaces even after following the previous step, use a Dual-Brush Scrubber to remove it.
CLEANING YOUR EGG'S CERAMICS
For exterior dirt, use a soft non-abrasive cloth and Ceramic Cleaner. It should come off without much effort. Whatever you do, don't use bleaches or detergents, abrasive cloths or sponges, as it may tarnish the finish of your EGG.
